· patience
· concentrate
· study tactics & certain openings
· friendly with your opponents (saying hello, thanks for the game, etc.)
· learning from your mistakes.
· Remembering that it is just a game and not the end of the world if you lose.
· Willing to give others advice and tips on how to improve their game if they ask.

p.s. a 1200 ranked chess player is a greater chess player in my opinion if tries hard at chess, learns from his mistakes and has a good attitude. When compared to a 2000 ranked player that is a sore loser, grumpy, and mean. And acts arrogantly. And refuses to talk to his opponents even after his opponents say hello or good game, etc.
Well that is just my opinion. Some people may disagree.

I totally agree with Paul. If your ranking is high you should not behave as a jerk 🙂 (applied to some high ranking players)
