And if professional chess player uses some opening it means that its definitely sound.
Yes if no-one over 2750 plays the Dutch then it's unsound & I'm pretty sure it's no good for us guys.

"I'm not telling kids they can't make it. I'm telling a 1700 who is on his high teens (I suppose) that the odds of him reaching 2600 are pretty low and he just shouldn't care about the openings 2600 players play... which is a very sensible thing to say, if you look at the career of people who reach such high levels." I am no longer 1700. Over the board I am currently 1546, but I am very under rated. I have been placing in my tournaments and this last saturday I beat an 1845 guy easily and The only game I lost was against a 2300 player on board 1!
I will reach the IM level it is only a matter of time. As for a GM I am unsure if I have what it takes.

Originally posted by kmac27That's a good goal. However, you have to consider that the difference in playing strength from 2000 up becomes much harder to master and more subtle. Similarly, it's much easier to from a B to a B+ than from an A to an A+.

BTW: Wormwood, I play the Nimzo sometimes and I think it can give really diverse, strategically rich and interesting positions. You may have just chosen some of the more stale variations. In my experience, it is up to both Black and White to produce an exciting game but the opening is usually not to blame so much if it seems too tranquil. Even the QID can be an exciting opening if played actively with Ba6 and pawn sacrifices abound (d5 pawn sacrifice with Qc2). Moreover, even quiet, seemingly simple positions can be tremendously interesting if their subtleties are appreciated. I get a lot of satisfaction outplaying my opponent slowly from a Caro-Kann.
