I look in the open invites and I keep seeing these dudes asking
for games than going >2300 or something. Isn't it a bit
rediculous for these 1200's and 1300's to be thinking the top
players will just give them a game?

They are just being silly, they should know that whatever player rated at least 600 points more won't waste his time playing with them, mainly becuse he has nothing to gain from such a game and everything to lose in case of a blunder.

agreed. of course, some of them might be OTB >1900 rated players who just happen to have low or provisional RHP rating (like me)...

Well they can work their way up the ladder then. It's not hard.

Agreed. I've had to do it twice, and it didn't take me very long either time. And sometimes it's fun playing opponenets who never, ever, EVER resign.

I'm playing one now, I think I have about 4 pieces on him but
by god, with his one rook and knight, he is determined to whip my
ass, umption that is. How bout this dude 'blueonion' has a challange
out for someone >2000 and then sets up a positional game, you
know, the kind that are unrated, and then sets up the beginning
position. Check it out, hit info and look at the position he
wants to start from. Maybe he thinks that eliminates the downside
for the expert.

i think you should give this a little easier stance. i personally love this game and all i want to do is play but can't seem to get out of my own shadow. sometimes players like me who have a real passion for chess need some encouragement from better players . sry for the rant.

They would be better advised to ask for games with players 200-300 pts. above them, then, when they get to the 1400-1500 level, seek games from 1600-1700's, etc.

My postal rating is low 2000's, and looking back, I rarely did well against players rated more than 200 pts. above me. Today, the gap is narrowed to about 100 points. i.e. I rarely win from 2100's & up because the gap between Class players and Masters is enormous. I am more likely to lose to an 1800 than I am to win from a Master even though the gap is about 200 points.

Well, if the game is unrated, how does it not eliminate the downside for the expert? Perhaps this is a position from one of his own games and wants to see how it should have been handled? I grant you that he should probably say so in the game decription or something.

The reasoning for the 1300 players to do this kind of thing is the same reasoning as the men have for entering the Ladies' tourney. Because they can. And this is an equally ridiculous result of this kind of thinking.

Ok, I just looked at it and it looks like he reset the game to the inital configuration. Ok, I'll go with y'all... it does look like he's an idiot... 🙂
