chess on Yahoo is for amateurs, not for PROs like we are 🙂.
actually, I use Yahoo if I want just a little of some game (I used it a little for cards' games -poker, bridge, or pool), but this site(Yahoo) is for people who have some 30 minutes to spare and do not know what to do...not for maniacs and addicts like us.
What kills me about Yahoo is chess is the chat areas are filled with players who have names like HotSexyFemale19, PromiscuousGirl21, etc who do nothing more than post the links to pictures of their profile and talk about how hot they are.
For starters, who knows whether these people are even female and secondly, it doesn't look to good with the wifey when I'm trying to play chess on Yahoo and get these random names sending me messages. Are there more people trying to hook up here than actual chess players? Weird!

I agree. Also, yahoo people only want to play blitz, there chess playing software is occasionally buggy, there new interface is bad, and the ratings system is definitely inflated,. Plus people just randomly start cussing at you...
Also, people never press the start game button. I press the button, then wait for a couple ofr minutes and they never press it....

The interface isn't very professional, and the players are just downright rude, not to mention there are a lot of engine users there from what I've been told.

Keep in mind I did play 2000+ blitz games easy on Yahoo before joining an OTB club, 3 years ago.
Im pretty sure less then 10% of them are actually cheating, Ive played 10 games in the past week on yahoo and none of them cheated, because I couldnt have defeated them or played that well against an engine. Plus its pretty easy to tell when its a person and when its not
Okay. I had to try it again to check out the changes. It looks pretty much like the same old yahoo to me, except that it is more colorful. Here's one basic problem: chess servers implement PGN, Yahoo! Games does not.

Yahoo! Chess is the only realtime chess site that one can access via a browser from behind a firewall that only allows port 80 and 443 out.
I have no idea why *ICS doesn't have this facility but it is enormously annoying 😠I mean really .. how hard is it to run off of a standard HTTP port!!
This of course doesn't detract from the many valid points other people have made .. but if you ain't got a choice you just have to put up with what you got 😉
