i think eaveryone should resign whenever they want: early or at checkmate.

if you cant quickly mate someone with ease then your win can't be very convincing.

That said i still understand david tebb wanting early resignation once he has won - even before he has won you have little hope, once he has an advantage the average player can recognise, then you have zero hope. resigning early means he can play the part that has interest for him, instead of going over and over the same old techniques.

When a game is evidently lost I always ask the "winner" if he/she wants me to resign or wants to give me the opportunity to learn from the endgames although it is lost and play on. This helps me to better myself ... 😉

While I've never pulled one off myself, there's always the possibility of stalemating. I have lost won games by stalemating. 😳

Also, you might draw a game via a perpetual check. So resigning just because you're down a piece or two may be premature.

You're a man after my own heart. But is it really possible to have too much cannabis.

I guess when your opponent turns into an iguana....

The only time I am inclined to resign is when the local saloon is open for much needed refreshment

If an opponent has executed a fine combination and has come out ahead, I will let them get the mate just to be nice. I always hope for the same. Otherwise, if the game has been rather boring and I am behind and there doesn't seem to be much hope, then I will resign.
