So what?
there are lots of people collecting chess books, sets, computers, memorablia etc.
it doesn't help their play but still they truly enjoy it (and sometimes spend fortunes on their hobby).
Chess is much more than competition and mental struggle - it's also culture, art.

That is a standard set in European play. I think the other guy found it for you. They are nice, the knights are sort of plain looking.
