I was well and truely beaten in this game but I am still unclear how I could have avoided defeat. Any suggestions?

The Yugoslav attack variation of the sicilian defence is quite an interesting opening. But I am definately not an expert, I believe XanthosNZ knows some detail about it.
Originally posted by zanussiI'd say you neglected the centre. An e5 pawn would have got rid of the pesky knight. A knight swap would have achieved the same thing. Also, I wouldn't have brought my Queen out where you did, but would rather have pushed Queenside pawns to open up the castled position. I didn't think much of your rook move either. Rooks work best on the flanks.

I would say your game was mainly sound. Only a few small mistakes, but as I have learned, in the Dragon, the smallest inaccuracies can lead to defeat.
12...Ng3 looks like a good move, trading off your knight for the light-square bishop.
13...Nxd4 seems a bit better to get rid of the well-placed White Knight.
again 14...Nxd4. 14...Ne5 does not have as much point as it does in some other lines of the Dragon because the White Bishop was never on c4.
15...Nc4 was your main mistake I think, as it allows White to win back his pawn. 15...Bxh6 is better, just a straight swap and Black is still winning.
Sorry, it's not much but I hope it helps.
