for the benefit of my wee italian pal, ravello, i thought i was going to improve on my dreadful record against him in this game, i thought i had him, although he defended well, i think i screwed up by moving my bishop and not exchanging, though it may have been earlier.

credit to rav, he punished me hard.

Well, 18... f6 was certainly a mistake because you gave up a pawn. Then you let him take away your bishop pair as well.

16...c6 look like a blunder to me, as it traps the bishop where it can be attacked, facilitating white winning a pawn (after exchanging knight for bishop) and wrecking the structure of black's remaining pawns.

I think your mistake was in allowing your opponent to turn the game into Pacman.

This particular ploy is more often encountered in games between much stronger players and I must congratulate Ravello for his fine execution of the tactic.

You did have him; one deathblow missed was 44...Qe6+ 45.Kc7 Rc8#.

It's not a ''deathblow missed'', my king could have gone to b6 or d6..........
Both squares are covered by the Queen on e6; Rc8 is mate, Rav.

Forgive me,I'm drunk now and I guess I moved the queen instead of the rook on the analize board.
My apologies to Bowmann.

Sorry, but I can't accept a drunken apology. Especially a misdirected one.

Lotsa BAD moves! Starting with the lemon 3...Nc6. Black is supposed to get counterplay by attacking White's center. That is done with moves like ...c5. But Black can never play for counterplay with c5 cause he put his dang knight on c6! 😠

Black REALLY needs to look at some opening books.

39...g5? when 39...Qg2 was far better winning a pawn and putting his king on the run
