Here's a game that just ended. It ended in a checkmate without struggle, as my opponent clearly didn't take more than a second or two to make a move. (I was blitzing too, but blitzing, not bulleting.) But my goal on this site is to understand the basic strategic ideas in chess, especially in the QP openings, and I did wonder about these in this game, and I want to ask about them. What I was thinking is in the pgn.

1. d4 g6 2. e4 Bf8g7 3. Ng1f3 {I wouldn't mind this transposing to the KID.} c6 {Is this going to be some kind of Caro-Kann? I know nothing about it.} 4. c4 {I also have means to claim d5.} e6 5. Nb1c3 d5 6. Bc1g5 {Hoping for Nf6. If f6, my understanding is that he's weakened his kingside, and my bishop is going to the h2-b8 diagonal. If Bf6, I'm exchanging.} Bg7f6 7. Bg5xf6 {K.} Qd8xf6 8. e5 {I don't if this is a good move, but seeing my opponent making moves extremely quickly, I thought there was a chance for 8... Qf5 9.Bd3 Qg4 10.h3 Qxg2 11. Rh2.} Qf6d8 9. cxd5 {I think I needed to take here, because I felt that 1. I needed to open the c-file for my rook, and 2. if he took, my bishop would end up on c4, and I thought I would have to move it again because that wasn't were it belonged.} cxd5 10. Bf1d3 {Which is where I thought the bishop belonged. It has no business on e2, because black's DSB is blocked by a pawn so it won't be pinning my knight any time soon. And my bishop has a better view of the board from here.} Ng8e7 11. O-O O-O 12. Qd1d2 {Here's the moment that scares my all the time. I have to connect my rooks so I have to put my queen somewhere. But where? There are so many squares! I chose this one because there's a mating threat in it, and it actually worked. But I have no idea how to choose the square in a strategically sound way.} Ne7c6 {I've no idea what this was for.} 13. Ra1c1 {I always try to do this. Open the c-file, put the rook on it. What to do with it next is a mistery.} Qd8a5 14. Qd2h6 {OK, let's see if he sees the threat.} Nc6b4 {No, he doesn't.} 15. Nf3g5 Rf8d8 16. Qh6xh7 Kg8f8 17. Qh7xf7 1-0
If you don't know where to put your queen, put it on same colour as your opponents king. c2 is a pretty nice square, or you could play Rc1, not saying where you queen are.

Well, right, but my threat was pretty silly. I'd have had no chance of delivering the checkmate if my opponent had been thinking about their moves at least for a couple of minutes...
