im interested in the scotch game. i like playing e4 more then d4 but i dont like the ruy. i figure the scotch game is a good alternative.

whats the best scotch game to play?

whats the most tactical?

whats the most positional?

and whats the most sound?

im looking at the Goring Gambit, Scotch Gambit, and the main line...

any recommendations?

Göring and Scotch gambit are tactical and fun.Main line is probably more sound.

I general you should play the gambits first. They give you an idea about the tactical possibilities in an opening. You should also know about the traps. This is the Scotch Trap:

I dug through what I have on the opening and found this. It is a black win but an entertaining one.

Edit: If I remember correctly the game may be fictional because the Nxg7 line wasn't played by white.

The Scotch Gambit has been my main line as white for 20 years.
