I got to this ending with a friend, he lost because of a mistake, but analyzing from this point we could only get to draw, can this ending be won by either side(i was white).

Nope, only with a black error:

1.Rxa2 Rxa2+ 2.Kxa2 Kd4 3.Kb3 Ke5 4.Kc4 Kd6 5.Kd4 Ke6 6.f4 Kd6 7.e5+ Ke6 8.Ke4 Kd7 1-0

1.Rxa2 Rxf3 =

Most rook and pawn endgames draw.

Yeah, notice the new edits. Most of the time Rook and Pawn endgames draw.

BTW: It draws because of this:

1.f4 Kxf4 2.e5 Kf3 3.Re1 Kf2 4.Re4 Kf3 etc.

So after ...Kxp 2.e5..Kf3 3.Rxa2..Re3 its a draw, and if Re1 the king can just go to e2 and chase it back and forth along the e file no?

I dont know what my friend thought but after ....k*P 2. e5 he just startet chasing the pawn with the king until it was too late.

but if he just moved his king to f5 then bring the rook back to the 8 then it was another draw.

Right, I didnt think about that. so many ways to draw, none to win.

superman, I think in that position Rxa2 is the best move to be played.

as CMS pointed out, Rxa2 wins, Rxf3 draws...

Yes but it only wins with blacks error, not with best play.

That's what he said, he just left out the part where he was supposed to say and black replies right before the whole Rxa2 wins, Rxf3 draws.
