White wins as Black King can't get to the end in time, last move scuppered by the other advanced pawn leaving him unable to avoid being in check.

Am i right ?
Or am i right
Or am i right, right, right.......
Actually no...if black goes diagonal and takes the advanced pawn on route, he cuts off the other pawn too and white is stuffed.

Changed my mind....black wins !

Are you forgetting that White's h-pawn can advance two squares on its first move?

White wins easily.

White plays 1. h4 and Black resigns.

(2. h5, 3. h6, 4. h7, 5. h8Q 1-0 against any Black defense except the pointless advance of the a-pawn, which delays White's pawn promotion until the sixth move from the diagram: 1. h4 a5 2. h5 a4 3. h6 a3 4. h7 a2+ 5. Kxa2 1-0)

If White wins easily, would I bother wasting my time (and yours) posting the puzzle?

The h pawn can't be stopped, what other miraculous solution do you have?

I won't address this puzzle, because it's off-topic for this forum.
But back to the chess puzzle, I see the draw attempt now:

1. h4 Kc7 2. h5 Kb6 3. h6 Ka5 4. h7 b6 5. h8=Q a6 1/2-1/2

Very tricky.

1.h4 (the only move white can make without losing)

If black gets his king to a5 and then his a and b pawns to a6 and b6, he stalemates regardless of what white does. And black can do this, except...

I pushed the white h-pawn to h8 and underpromoted to a knight. I still can't find a win for white though. Black leaves the b-pawn on b7 just in case white underpromotes. Black doesn't play b6 and stalemate unless white promotes to anything OTHER than a knight. Uuugh.

Once I underpromoted to a knight I still couldn't find the answer. Black's king comes back to pester my knight and f-pawn after I capture the black f-pawn. If I bring the white king across the board to help then black's pawns start rolling down the board. Double uuugh!

I give up. Is it a forced draw?

Jeez, giving up already? Do you resign every time your opponent reaches for another queen?

But the draw attempt fails to under-promotion:

5. h8=N a6 6. Ng6! fxg6 7. f7 etc. 1-0

This puzzle rocks. I'm going to investigate further before I commit to this solution, but as of now I answer that White wins.

Almost. But 6.... fxg6 is a blunder. Black doesn't have to take the knight. He can just ignore it.

I still can't get a white win. But underpromting is the only option so far that's playable.

I don't think that's a problem:

1. h4 Kc7 2. h5 Kb6 3. h6 a6 4. h7 Ka5 5. h8=N Kb6 6. Nxf7 Kc7 7. Ne5 Kd8 8. f7 Ke7 9. Kb2 a5 10. Kb1 a4 11. Kb2 a3+ 12. Ka2 b6 13. Ka1 Kf8 and I think White can drop the f-pawn with 14. Nd7+ and come out on top.

This will take a little while to verify...
