You are missing a lot ...[text shortened]... the
position. There is no doubt you get ideas.
Some good - most bad - but you do get ideas.
I have actually done that in a particularly interesting endgame as I thought it would be a good learning experience and simply couldn't wait for the game to end(especially since endgames are one of my weakest points relatively speaking). But, I do things like that when analyzing the openings I play. So I get the pleasure of it. But, I don't feel the need to do it for 99 percent of the games(while they are in progress, I like looking afterwards to see if either or those 2 ideas I kept going back and forth on were better for a deeper reason).
