That theme has a sounder basis (though I think that Black gets the better of it) in the following line against the Alekhine's Defense: 1 e4 Nf6 2 Bc4 Nxe4 3 Bxf7+ Kxf7 4 Qh5+, and White eventually gets his piece back

Do you mean 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Bc5 3.Nxe5 Bxf2+ ? I believe 4.Kxf2 Qh4+ 5.g3 Qxe4 6.Nf3 and black resigns eventually. Clearly this opening is for the player who is tired of winning.

Yeah I knew it was some "I hope I get lucky move" Because my King gets to safety eventually, and black loses a long range piece on an open board for a pawn

They think they can win the N back after KXB, Qf3+ because they haven't seen Nf6.

A typical opening mistake from a player who has just learnt about opening traps and thinks he sees one.
