Blitz evaluates 14 ...Re8 as -0.85, however evaluates Bf7 as -2.19. In retrospect it does seem that Bf7 would have probably made me more active, but why is this move so far superior to Re8? What am I missing here?

I guess that makes sense. I wish I had a couple of other engines to see if they concurred with Fritz' opinion. I'm not sure why, but I think my version may be messed up. It's Fritz 11, but I've seen it miss winning moves, mates in 4, etc.

My Fritz 9 says the same thing. Apparently, with 14...Bf7, you threaten 15...Qe7 bumping the Knight AND also setting up ...e4, trying to open the center before White can castle. This option isn't available with 14...Re8.
