I was following a few of the other players in this Themed Tourny. Why does white resign here? http://www.redhotpawn.com/gameanalysis/boardhistory.php?gameid=4703944 I can't find the winning solution for black

Game 4703944
Beats me, although I much prefer Black's position.

I guess white felt his pawn position was compromised and wanted to avoid a long game that could end up to be losing all the way.

I think its premature but I'm sure white had his/her reasons.

Looks like 3 pawn islands for white afterwards.
Besides that I can't see much.
Although it could be the usual i'm just resigning because I have too many games OR won't be around OR have tournament games now OR ....

Maybe white is preparing to enter a 1500-1750 branded tourni & needs a ratings drop?

Maybe, but if he resigns a game with a player with 250 points higher rating, that doesn't help much.

There isn't a winning plan, just some small positional advantages for black. It doesn't show much fighting spirit resigning here. Perhaps white was a little overawed by his opponent.

I wouldn't have resigned and some better players than me agree in this thread.

Sandbagging? This shameful practice is prevalent to my dismay.

It's definitely not sandbagging when you take into account the rating change.

It's true that material is even but white is in for a miserable time. I reckon white took into consideration that fact and the rating of his opponent and thought: SOD IT!

Perhaps he is a player that loves his bishops so much that he couldnt bear to play a game without them both.

I'd say these add up to a clear advantage for Black

Black has the bishop pair on an open board
White will have an isolated pawn - which White can hammer down the d-file and hit with ... Bf5 etc. White may get tied in knots just trying not to lose the pawn.
White has played f4 which contributes nothing to his position but does restrict his remaining bishop a little and has loosened the kingside a little.

White's facing an unpleasant defence with no prospects of winning. Maybe he'll get a draw but that's the best he can do unless Black drops a piece or something.

... and all that before considering the rating difference.

- though having said all that I'd agree that it's to soon to say Black's winning.

Not sure if I'd resign this position or not but I like to think i wouldn't have got into it in the first place.
