When I first started playing a couple of years ago it was my
understanding that the winner chose (white) the color -
too bad there isn't a faq section with a search on it instead
of the very limited faq page that's here.

Am I mistaken? Thanks!

I always think it polite to play a rematch in reversed colours.

I am not aware of any conventions or formal etiquette .....

Indeed I think a chane of colours is "normal".

Here you just create a new game if you click "rematch", so you have the whole lot of oportunities (only the opponent is filled in by the system). One could think of a site idea starting a game with the same settings and jst reversed colours whn clicking "rematch". O to give the loser whie or black...whatever.

Thank you both very much. Can't think why that's so
ingrained in my mind. - 'Wishing is believing'? 😕

Unlike tic-tac-toe you just alternate colors.

It's a chore to get my kids to understand that there is more than just white on the board.
