Joined 21 Feb '06 Moves 6830 There's a neat little trick in that line:
[FEN "8/p2r1p2/P3p1k1/5p1p/4nP1K/2Q4P/6P1/8 w - - 0 1"] [SetUp "1"] {-------------- . . . . . . . . p . . r . p . . P . . . p . k . . . . . . p . p . . . . n P . K . . Q . . . . P . . . . . . P . . . . . . . . . white to play --------------} 1. Qf3 Nf6 2. Qg3+ Kh7 3. Qg5 Ne4 4. Qxh5+ Kg7
And White can't prevent Rd8 and Rh8 mate! (without losing his queen)
I feel really nervous about Gelfand's king, there are going to be lots of nasty traps to watch out for with it there.

I agree. Lots of chess played today. I'm exhausted just watching it. Almost 5 hours of intense thinking with no room for error.

I see Boris is going for the Qb7 idea I gave above. 😉
Joined 01 Feb '07 Moves 7819 It's over! Anand defended perfectly and got a hard fought draw.

Joined 06 May '08 Moves 42492 Good game.
I've seen them blown at our level with the Queen player pushing too hard
convinced there is a win.
Something like this...
[FEN "6n1/p3r1k1/P3pp2/8/4QP1K/8/8/8 b - - 0 1"] 1... Nh6 2. Kh5 f5 3. Qg2+ Kh8 {Now 4.Kxh6 losses the Queen to Rh7+ and Rg7+}4. Qb2+ Kh7 5. Qf6 Ng8 6. Qg6+ Kh8 {OOPS! Suddenly White cannot avoid the Rh7+ and Rg7+ trick winning the Queen.}
on your backrank!

or was he completely taken by surprise when gelfand played c5?

or was he completely taken by surprise when gelfand played c5? His face told me he had it all worked out, he semed so peacefull the game was excelent.
Maybe he is a good actor and he was trying to convince Gefland to offer the draw.

Joined 25 Apr '08 Moves 3102 Interesting point made :-
(The two players in the press conference). One question to Anand: "Your wife seems to appear in the press center half a minute before the game ends. Does she have paranormal abilities to tell when this is going to happen?" Anand's answer: "I don't know how she does it."
Is Gelfand always looking at Anand when they are playing? Isn't that some type of psycho-mind game?

Joined 01 Feb '07 Moves 7819 ...and it's over. The position looks drawish but I would have liked to see if Anand could break through the queenside after a3.
