Also agree... beautiful chess.

Apparently it's the Spanish: Modern Steinitz, Siesta Var, Kopayev Var main line until 10...Nf6. Quite a mouthful.

I am not sure.....do the white prawns mean more to me than a black (or dark) horsey ??????????????

Great game!! It's one of the best games I ever seen here.
I'm glad we can see it all live and in color πŸ˜‰

With all respect for the players involved (they are all very strong and deserve our attention), could you state, once the games will be over, what makes these game so exciting compared to several hundreds of other games running in parallel? I hope it is not just the name of the players, nor the choice of opening moves, but some positional or tactical beauties in the games.

Two words: Imbalanced position. :-)

Too bad people can't kibbitz on games in progress without the players seeing (Like as if I'm going to find the winning line for these players lmao) but you know what I mean. The recent match in Tripoli was made more enjoyable by the sometimes learned kibbitzing.

normally when i look at the games of strong players i see someone win and do not really understand why.

these games seem to have tricks in them that i can see but did not know till i saw them, especially the game against kingcaptured - it has a positional element which is totally new to me ... that i will now never forget for the rest of my life!

As for Kingcaptured's games, this one below is extremely entertaining. I showed it to Canadian international master Lawrence Day and his comment was "Wow, what a major crazy game! Hard to believe that a queen and two rooks could be such a futile attacking force."

Warning: playing the game over rapidly may cause you to have a giggling fit. Watch the white king march to victory!

Now, that is some game indeed! Beautifully judged knight sacrifice to obtain three connected freepawns, but under higly risky conditions. Two bishops overpowering two rooks. Great chess. Also from the black side, the bishop sac on f4 was very risky, but an attractive attempt to force a kingside attack.
