Reading his profile before posting "???"'s and 😕 - would be nice. He probably struggles to find time to work on his own game with all the work he does organizing chess facilities for underprivileged kids. He's also well connected with (and respected by) many of the top players in the region and he knows who to match the kids up with for further coaching once he has covered the basics and nurtured enthusiasm for the game.

You don't need a high rating to organize tournaments and be a tireless promoter of the game...or to get sponsors for events and facilities or to teach the basics to beginners and - most importantly - instill enthusiasm.

In addition your rating here doesn't necessarily reflect your ability precisely, as it's quite possible to blitz your moves here, due to personal time constraints, and be quite a bit stronger OTB. Not that he needs me to tell you this.

This is why the zoo asks you NOT to go by the Hippo's cage and poke him with sticks or chant, "b3 SUCKS". You can go on to other things, but we have to stay and listen to his ranting and raving while we settle him down.

....calm down boy....look..a bushel of carrots....hmmmmm good

I think that your point is an excellent one. If you play openings that consistently lead to certain recurring themes, then as you master those themes your playing level will significantly increase. I knew of a player who made it to master playing only 1 f4 as White.

After 1 b3 g5 2 Bb2, what does Black play next? After 1 b3 g6 2 Bb2 Nf6 3 Bxf6 exf6, Black seems okay. But after 1 b3 g5 2 Bb2 Nf6 3 Bxf6 exf6, I don't like Black's position at all. Anybody else care to opine?

When I started with this line, good players enjoyed far too much freedom on the board. Trust me here as I stuck with it for about 3 years. One of my students as gone off to try and find his own set of lines hoping he can "work out" a set opening for him self he came back with this line which of course made me smile. Gaychessplayer is right that using your own line is good but this one leads down a bad road.
