I'm thinking Nd6 refers to neodymium in group 6 of the lanthanoid metals.
If so, might not E refer to Electrons and N neutrons?
Or perhaps E is energy in Newtons?
I'm not sure, bus aside from a fairly obvious chess misdirection, Nd seems to be most consistent with neodymium.
I cannot find any reference to 3.5 in wikipedia though.
