x=bat
y=ball

Given:
1. x + y = 1.1
2. x - y = 1
Rearranging 2:
3. x = y + 1
Substituting 3 into 1:
y + 1 + y = 1.1
Solving:
2y = 0.1
y = 0.05

bat + ball = 110
bat = ball + 100

So, ball + ball + 100 = 110
2 balls = 10
ball = 5

Ans. The ball costs 5 pence.

Edit: Where did you buy them?
