You may use any mathematical symbol(s) that you wish, but you must ensure that each digit from 1 to 9 is used once and only once.

Note that this is not the particular solution that I was looking for, but it certainly satisfies the initial conditions. So, I'll leave this problem open if anyone wishes to come up with another solution.
