Isn't there some "piece of music" where they're just playing a note every couple of years or something?

The term "music" is so subjective, nevermind the "longest". Longest in what? Time? Number of notes? Measures?

I was thinking TIME.
But you could impress me by finding the longest manuscript measured in yards.

"The Road" by Frederic Rzewski is 539 pages (A3) in its entirety, which according to Google comes out to over 247 yards.

Anyone got that beat?

You clearly did not come across my Magnum Opus, called "Pi", where each number is assigned a different note on the piano and then played in order.

There is a repeat sign at the end.

If it corresponds to pi (3.14159...) the digits never end. Hence, a repeat sign is pointless.

Every melody: yes in terms of the appearnec of notes. (though there is the question of rhythm...how is that coded? )

Every composition: no. ther is a consept of having more tones than one at a given time...

I think we need to clarify Rank outsider's premise, where each number (digit?) is assigned a different note on the piano and then played in order. Pi (3.14159...) is represented by ten digits (0 to 9) in various combinations continuing endlessly.

That would mean that ten different notes in various combinations would be played endlessly. Obviously, ten notes (out of dozens in existence) cannot bring forth every song, melody or composition.
