comet and hope are both wrong.
Comet doesnt fit the "if you touch it you might die" line, along with hope.

Well then it should help you out, gave away a little more info. =D
comet and hope also dont work for the last line, the "you can send a message."

Bird?

Eagle on the moon, migratory birds go north, send message with pigeon, sleeping with a "bird": getting lucky, illness/death: bird flu, birds flying high, you know how I feel...

Clever. I think that must be the answer.

I'm still stumped on the "light" part, though...

COmmunication by MEteor Trail - believe it or not, and comets were believed to be harbingers of doom. The line that made me think I was probably wrong was if you are lucky you can sleep with it.

Very nice. possibly a religious connotation here? white dove bathed in light, etc?

bird is very close, but still doesn't fit the first line.

The sun?

Often found in the light (since it gives the light!).
"Sleep with it" as in sleep at the same time as the sun.
Beautiful sight - e.g. sunsets.

Look to the south in June, umm, not sure about that bit.
1969 on the moon - I think the sun is very bright from the moon due to no atmosphere.

Last time I looked the sun is in the sky.
Illness - sunstroke and dehydration.
Sun is low and high during the day.

Perhaps the sending a message bit has got something to do with shadows, or the "sunny face" smiley.

I thought that was it too...

...when the guy in the first page said it. 😉

The sad thing is I checked really carefully before adding my guess...

me too, but even the "don't look to the south in june" line works too, if you think about June 20 (longest day of the year, the sun rises in the east and sets in the west and is overhead all the time - for those of us in the middle latitudes), so it actually works there too. So why isn't it the best answer? I'm waiting for the "official answer" . . .
