There is a farmer with on an island. He has a cat, a bag of seed, and a chicken. He has a boat big enough to carry one item with him at a time back to the mainland. If he leaves the cat and chicken alone on the island the cat will eat the chicken. If he leaves the chicken alone with the bag of seed the chicken will eat the seed. How does he get all three items across by carrying one item at a time?

Take the chicken to the mainland.

Go back to the island, and get the cat.

Take the cat to the mainland. Pick up the chicken.

Take the chicken back to the island, and trade it for the seeds.

Take the seeds to the mainland.

Go back and get the chicken.
