Really? Here in the uk a "dress" is a long garment with sleeves and a skirt-like bottom, worn by women. A jumper is a kind of knitted sweatshirt, often made of wool.

Dress means the same here in U.S. but a jumper is a type of dress, sort of a pinafore. Knitted sweatshirt here is just called a sweater.
