There are sixty cups on a table. If one falls down, then how many remain?

11 does the job, as does 9 cups and 3 tables but in the spirit of the OP's solution, the one I was specifically looking for is 2 (since nein cups on the table means no cups on the table! 😵 )

In both cases 10, since you never specified whether the flies should be dead or alive in the first case or whether it mattered that the candles were lit in the second?

One dead fly remains. The rest fly away.

Ten candles remain. Seven of them remain lit.
