weird numbers

IF 1 third = 33.3% then how come 3 thirds = a whole whereas 3 -33.3% equal 99.9%

1/3 in fact = 1.[WORD TOO LONG]....

<EDIT> LOL, ok perhap i better put it in writting. 1/3 = 1.3 recuring, i.e 1.333333333.....33333....333 on for ever and ever... <EDIT>
