I believe he meant 5. Bd6! (and 4...Kh8) and his conclusion holds.

The White king just stays away from the black knight and the White bishop stays on d6 (or e5).
The Black queen can safely capture nothing.

Well done, Big Dogg.

1...Nxg7 2.Nf7+! Kg8 3.Bc5!
Threatens Bxf2 and Nh6+/Nf7+ perpetual check
3...f1Q 4.Nh6+ Kg8 5.Bd4!!

...and Black can make absolutely no progress. His King is stuck in the corner, his Knight is pinned, he can't win the white Bishop with checks, and he can't play ...Qxg5+ due to Nf7+.

Even if white's last move was B-d6, doesn't Q-e2+ free the knight since the bishop cannot check without being taken

No, it doesn't after 6.Kb3 N~ 7.Be5+ Qxe5 there is 8.Nf7+ winning the queen. A fine study by Zahodyakin, I believe.

Alright, I'm at least man enough to concede this one and admit defeat.

I should have meant 5.Bd6 🙂 Thanks for the help.

I knew I'd found the right idea, but got a bit too sure of myself at the end! Thanks to ilywrin for filling in the last missing detail.

As I've said before, I find endgame studies a bit frustrating because it's hard to know when I'm really done solving.
