It's easy to get from hate to love, changing one little thing at a time.
Can it be done with a visit to eros along the way?

I assume you're looking for a word ladder? Not quite as neat as I'd like, but:
[hidden]hate, hats, eats, ears, errs, eros, gros*, grot, trot, toot, loot, lost, lose, love[/hidden]
* It's in the OED, honest!

However, I think I have you all beat and I dare you to get it in less changes:
Hate, Hote, Lote, Love!
Hote, To command, to join. Lote, To lurk, or lie hidden.
It doesn't include eros though.
Oh well.

To be honest, I was really struggling for words either side of "eros". I assumed we weren't allowed to repeat words, and I wasn't sure about proper nouns. Any other suggestions?
