For once we aren't talking about humans burning coal but rather burning coal as a natural event! So this time humans are (obviously) not to blame.
But this also inadvertently does add yet more evidence, albeit a bit indirectly, to the mountain of evidence that CO2 is a greenhouse gas; not that you would doubt that CO2 is a greenhouse gas if you have studied and understood all the evidence unless you are something like a flat-earther. But, that minor point aside, this study is far more interesting for what it tells us about the likely causes of some (but certainly not all) of the mass extinctions, including the biggest one!
