Preventing apoptosis isn't necessarily a great idea. This is part of the cancer protection strategy in cells. During a stroke or similar event people go into something called ischaemic cascade, during which cells undergo apoptosis due to oxygen deprivation, the cell's DNA shreds itself, the cell membrane can rupture and toxins kill other cells which spreads the damage in a cascading fashion. Hence the term ischaemic cascade. In the event of a stroke it probably is a good idea to prevent further apoptosis, but I'm concerned about brain cancer as a potential adverse effect.
