I wonder if that means the oxygen content 3 billion years ago was high enough so that, if you went back there in a time machine, you could comfortably breath the atmosphere and survive there without CO2 poisoning?

The problem with their conclusions is that they are assuming the rocks are billions of years old instead of thousands of years old. But at least they are discovering that they have been wrong.
