You know what "genius" means though?
I always understood that a genius was an "original and creative thinker" beyond rote intelligence, but Google informed me that the formal definition includes intelligence.

Many people have IQ scores over 140 who are not, by definition, geniuses. I don't know what near genius means, practically speaking.
I liken it to a small car having a powerful engine, high IQ but genius as a small rocket with a powerful motor to get you to the moon or some such.

BTW, I just said all that in jest, I don't think those pills are worth the plastic they are shipped in. My guess is they contain caffeine or some such.

Don't assume that what Google calls "the" formal definition is the only one, or even necessarily correct.

In any case, even for those definitions which do assume intelligence, IQ is a red herring. IQ doesn't measure intelligence at all, only something related but not the same. There is some correlation, but not even remotely as strong a one as those tw#@s at Mensa would like to pretend.

You see all these super brain pills and they make such ridiculous claims, like one that said you get a 77% increase in IQ.

I estimate mine to be around 120 or so, no genius for sure, but lets do the math, I assume it would be 120 times 1.77, right?

Hehe, math says I take those pills I end up with an IQ of 212.

Let me attem😉

I would be ALMOST as smart as Terence Tao😉
Having read the posts in this thread, I think it's pretty clear no one here's taken genius pills. 🤔😉

You're modest, Sonhouse.

Haha. I've never taken one. But I know several people who have scored highly on them but lack original ideas of any kind.

High IQ score is necessary but not sufficient for genius.
Being a "genius" isn't only measured by creativity.

Her jokes are funny in a unique sort of way. Perhaps it's because it seems a bit out of character for her and it contrasts her usually serious posting style.

Of course not (did I write that? how can you measure creativity?). But I don't think one can be considered a genius without a meaningful and creative contribution of new knowledge.
