Human skin self-assembles from stem cells

Science

1 edit

A study in Nature reports that skin organoids generated in a dish from human induced pluripotent stem cells can form multi-layered skin tissue with hair follicles, sebaceous glands and neuronal circuitry when cultured for 4-5 months.

Give the cell the right stuff and time it correctly, skin can self-assemble. How cool is that? Big implications of course for disease modeling, drug screening and reconstructive surgery.
