What I read about reforestation is the results are not as good as the ads say it should be. It may lead to a new kind of ecosystem but it cannot rebuild what was once there. The Chinese have already begun that, planting more than a billion trees and they want to reforest an area the size of Germany. The benefits won't be known for decades. It may stop the spread of deserts for sure but making a new ecosystem is not so easy.
Can't find it at the moment (and I might be dreaming)
but didn't Libya have a reforestation programme?
Thought there was a massive irrigation system planned
for Sahara and also synthetic "trees" that caught night
dew and released it periodically to produce rain.
Or was that a sci-fi story?
