"WorldWide Telescope (WWT) enables your computer to function as a virtual telescope, bringing together imagery from the best ground and space-based telescopes in the world. Experience narrated guided tours from astronomers and educators featuring interesting places in the sky."

Download the software and explore... it's a blast. I hunted down M31 and finally now have a sense of how far away it really is, even though it's the closest galaxy to us.

Actually its not the closest one, there are several small satellite galaxies in various stages of dis-assembly by our own milky way, the Greater Magellenic Cloud at 175,000 LY away for one, a bit torn up by the greater mass of our galaxy but a galaxy nonetheless.
Interesting site though.

I went to the guided tour and it asks to open a file ending in aspx. any idea what program responds to that? I use XP and it didn't know what to do with it.

aspx is a file extension for an Active Server Pages (ASP) page containing static (X) html. Essentially a web form. It should be displayed quite happily by your web browser.

Sadly the WWT site is blocked by the fun-police at work. Though RHP is allowed during lunch time. Yay!
