I really don't see any need to put it to a vote. NFL Football is clearly the best sport regardless of any votes. Now chess just naturally goes with Football automatically and sense the olympics classifies Chess as a sport then who am I to argue? It can still be played during penalties and beer commercials and halftime. College football is so closely related to NFL that there really isn't a reason not to include it in the same category as the NFL. The rest is only worthy of honorable mention. And Soccer doesn't get two votes so it is disqualified. There you have it.

What about all those individual sports. Bowling, Lawn Darts, swimming, diving, horseshoes, darts, crochet, triathlon, biathlon, marathon runners, speed skating, sprinters, barrel jumping, logging competitions, and the thousands of others I don't know yet?

Then there is the participation factor, as in who participates in these different sports, and then the fan base, who watches them. With these 2 different perspectives would make for a more unique vote.
Soccer (euopean Football) would probably win the fan base vote, But possibly Golf would win a participation vote.
