i use the dailychess dark theme on a chrome browser as this setup is the easiest upon my olde eyes

i use the newspaper piece style and the wood tile board theme

my issue is the contrast between the captured pieces displayed and the background
the black pieces are nearly invisible to me, again, i know my own myopia is mostly to blame

would you please explore the possibility of adding an outline to the black pieces so that i am able to see them?

Try "high contrast" as the board theme

I have old eyes too and the newspaper/high contrast theme combination I find the clearest

i appreciate yer attention to this, but
it's not the main board i have an issue with seeing well
it's the lil box for the captured pieces at the bottom of the board
and
it ain't the white pieces
or
is it the main pieces of either color

it's the dang ole lil black pawns
i just have a hard time seeing how many have been caught

One solution would be to get Russ to change the background color in the 'captured piece' display window.
Another solution would be to quit using 'dark theme'.

This is all about to change with the new board UI, which includes a new captured material box.

It will not have a colored background, like now, but the pieces will be smaller. I have experimented with the white outlines on the pieces, and will look at this again as it is necessary for dark mode.

I can relate to this as I also use dark theme almost exclusively. This seems a similar problem as with poll titles showing black on black in dark mode (since rectified by making them more like a dark grey, they can now be made out with adequate squinting). But I've never had much use for the captured pieces panel, as I was taught to compare the forces by what is actually on the board, as in live, where captured pieces can get shunted aside or even lost.

I know that doesn't help. 😞

Perhaps you could look at your game position and see what isn't there.

Or maybe you're the type that has to look to the side and see the captured pieces and complain to the site owner. 🙄

No wonder Russ takes many "vacations" these days...
You don't seem to get it, some people do have problems with their eyes.

Have a little empathy for others, my chess friend.

EDIT: By the way Russ doesn't take all that many vacations and even when he does it gets interrupted by people having some kind if issue, myself being one of them this time. So even when on Vacation he still watches the Site for Problems.
