I comes up from time to time and I think initially Russ (site admin) was motivated for things like that (Rival, his chess engine has some implemented), but he stated that in the near future (6 months or more?) he has other plans. But for real good infomation send him feedback or wait for an answer in this thread. 🙂

I don't know much about variants, but you can play FRC here: just have a "set piece game".
yep, a good idea: Russ could implement that 😉 😀 (make those games rated and implement a auto-startposition)

i gotta add that i'm not a big or experianced variants player...
I just love the idea, and never found the real good place to
play them. and I love RHP so why not? seems like many people here
know and like the idea, and perhaps a chance for many who don't
know about it to learn and have fun....

    see ya...!

    I play at www.itsyourturn.com
It has several variants. The site is okay, not great but okay.
www.atlanticchess.com also has several variants. I played a lot of progressive chess there which is not possible at www.itsyourturn.com

Edit: I would very much like it if progressive chess and dark chess were implemented here, then I would like to marry RHP :-)

Progressive Chess looks killer - will have to log onto atlanticchess and try it out. Surprised Silman hasn't advocated it as a means to improve one's ability to "create a fantasy position."

I think Gothic Chess is the coolest one out there. Played in England, USA, Germany, and Austria whic you can see on their website.

This games add a piece that can move like a Rook or a Knight, and another that moves like a Bishop or a Knight. Very cool!!
