Hyperlinks could be made to link you directly to the site instead of having to cut and paste, not that it's difficult exactly.
I doubt we'll ever be able to make them in Public forums, there's far too much chance of people abusing it and making links to dodgy porn sites.

If that's the reason it's disallowed I believe the PTB are being unnecessarily over-cautious.
[In fact, a link can be made that has to be cut/pasted just as easily to a porn site; which is obviously also against the rules here and a bannable offence.]
