We need a postid tag like [postid]{id}[/postid], I think. And the id of a post
should be in the post info box, I also think. And maybe this isn't really
important for a chess site, but... I think.

Anyone? Wouldn't it be useful to be able to link to a specific post in another thread?

You can, it's a variant of the threadid tag, but I don't know the syntax and it's not in the FAQ. Try doing a threadid and then edit it to add &postid and you may be able to work it out.

Syntax. Fill in thread id, page no. and post no., which you get from mousing-over the "reply and quote" button on that post.

Since I use Firefox with Linkification, the URL displays as a clickable link to a specific page in thread 159003 with the actual post on screen. In IE I expect it would be a copy'n'paste URL.

And inside a private forum, it should be
a direct clickable link to the same destination. Now I'll go off to a private forum to test that bit.

Thanks BigDoggProblem, I've been looking for that syntax info for a while.

No problem. BTW, I got it from the 'search forums' results. The link to each post is in that format.

Thread 158151

Whatever. I guess the only way to do this is to insert a complete URL. 😞

By the way, I use firefox too, but no text URL's are clickable. Is this some sort of extension?
