And that's the problem. If I use that link, it's to see the context. If the recommended post was made in a thread that is 521 pages long, and the post was made on page 507, it's not very helpful to be sent to page 1. And you can't even easily jump to the last post in the thread while you are in there; that only works from the thread list.

I think this is an easy fix for Russ et al.
The right page should be linked to, not only the thread.

Or maybe it could be changed so that the link goes to the forum rather than the thread, and then it could be called "Recommended Posts that Jump to the Forum that You Can Sort Through to Find the Context of why the Post was Recommended". After all, sometimes there are cross-thread references that you wouldn't understand by reading just the thread it was posted in. Actually there may sometimes be cross-forum references, too...
