I notice the thumbs up are coloured yet the thumbs down are grey and do not stand out.

Therefore I suggest that thumbs up are green and thumbs down are red.

I think that is the intention (and were red previously). Good I think to make the positive more prominent.

Edit: I gave you a thumb up to demonstrate.

Maybe Admin wants to favor positive appreciation?

And I would add that maybe up-votes should be kept as on other forums (e.g, to indicate "I agree" or "plus one" without people cluttering whatever thread if that's all they had to say), whereas perhaps the down-voting option should be eliminated, so that the objectors would only have the recourse of positing and explaining their objections.

What a great idea! I hope it gets implemented.

Firstly, may I point out that you never start a sentence with And.

Secondly, that is not a bad idea of yours.

Cheers

I tried to give you a thumbs down for the And error but also a thumbs up for your idea; it wouldn't let me so what the hell, I gave you a thumbs up anyway.

Perhaps you could have a discussion with your protégée regarding this matter?

It seems that I already have done so (and probably more than once), which to some extent nullifies your point. 😉

Cheers!

Oh, I know, I know! The late Sybil Fawltey herself might not know which way to vote these days.

(and thank you for that)

Years back we had only the "recommend" button.

For me there was no impulse to change that.

There is a huge impetus towards feature creep, which should be resisted, IMO. I want better functionality, not more functions, and easier readability not more distractions (this is something Microsoft, for example, has never understood). Actually, I am happy with fewer colors on the screen-- I like it that "my games" icon glows bright green when it is my move--that's useful--and so long as I can easily distinguish who's playing White and Black on the chess board, the rest of the UI should be as unobtrusive as possible. Same goes for forum posts, IMO.
