Toggle to turn off smileys

The message editor automatically inserts various yellow smileys when I type in certain key sequences.

I couldn't find a toggle to turn off the yellow smileys.

I'd like one.

It doesn't look very nice, though. There's an alternative - insert [ i][ /i] (without the spaces) instead of a space - but that's a lot of work. Having the option to turn off the code would be nice.
