Yes, it's heartening to see religious leaders with the courage to stand up to Trump.

Remember Bishop Mariann Budde of the Episcopal Church asking Trump for mercy for those who are legitimately scared of how his policies will affect them? Of course Trump and his toadies had to run her down for it, but it was a moment of clarity for the faithful, I think.

But yes, this ...[text shortened]... ican, they don't have that excuse anymore. "Oh, he's not a fan of Trump, maybe he knows something."

It's even nicer to see some of the Republicans standing up to Trump and his flunkies.

Yes, I do. I did appreciate that.

>> But yes, this is the bell I've been ringing since he took over America. MAGA "Christians" like Charlie Kirk are completely wrong in their worship of their Orange Jesus. I think we are starting to see a lessening of Catholic support of Trump. And a lot of Americans were thinking that previous Popes had no clue about America, but now that the Pope is American, they don't have that excuse anymore. "Oh, he's not a fan of Trump, maybe he knows something."

It's probably just a matter of hours before Pope Leo shows up in Chicago in an inflatable frog costume.

But what kind of 'sea change' is it that the Pope himself speaks out against MAGA?

Is it that this one is American and prior Popes didn't care much if America shot itself in the foot?

Maybe some personal reformations as a result of his gentle rebukes?

Symbolically, it could be said that the Sea is always the same, and we are the ones who change. God is not distant; it is we who are distant.

But why would MAGA Trump cultists even care what the Pope says? Aren't most or close to all of them non-Catholic Evangelicals who are not even members of mainline Protestant denominations?

>> Is it that this one is American and prior Popes didn't care much if America shot itself in the foot?

I think that would be a good and interesting historical topic to investigate, with a book-length result.

Probably the Magisterium would say: "It's a mystery." 😉

But maybe the papal conclave did think that maybe the USA was going off the rails or whatever, and thought that a pope from Chicago (also considering his personal background, of course) might be the right choice for this moment.

And maybe prior to Pope Leo's election, the conclave had avoided electing an American pope, because America itself was already so powerful (or had been) that to have an American pope would have looked too domineering.

I really only have one thing to say about this:

F off.

What I choose to re-post (and that IS what this is) IS me speaking for myself.
Mz. Combat-Heart Potty-Mouth,

Reposting someone else's words at length (and probably with some degree of copyright-infringement involved), is not really you speaking for yourself.

I seem to remember I have already mentioned the three self-restraints that the Jews and the Catholics teach (thought, speech, action).

Now I will add this:

It is what comes out of your mouth (or by extension your typing-fingers) that defiles you.

It's more like I don't think Boozy Suzi the Finger-Bruiser is completely lost yet.

However, I am reminded that unrequested help often comes across as insulting, intrusive, and condescending to the chronically offended party.

And also, I do admire her faith: she falls and falls, but knows that she is always caught and held, no matter how badly she might behave (even if I don't like how badly she behaves).
It's more like I don't think
That's for-sure. 🙄

So lazy, and so very disappointing.

You first problem is thinking that someone here cares what you think. Suzi is just fine; and she could care-a-less what you think; along with me. 🙂

How could you know what I think, and why didn't you edit your post better, given that it has been at least 21 minutes since the first attempt?

Exactly.

But wouldn't you agree that Pope Leo looks a little potassium-deficient?

Put away the fact how 'casting lots' had old testament significance, whilst the head of the religious body hid in wait. Reliance upon the spirit, confidence in the prepuce circumcision, and prayerfully conferred high priests brought a share of gentle vicissitude before reaching pitch dark.
