    No, it would prove you don't need a god to create life. They would just be duplicating the natural conditions that existed billions of years ago on Earth that led up to life.

    That's not strictly true. They have said that the mechanism they are using does not exist in nature and likely isn't what produced membranes in the ancient past. I doubt that there were detergents about back then so this mechanism couldn't be the real one.

    This is true but it is only one small step. If they are successful, they can vary the way the membranes are produced. I think there was work done showing ordinary clay has pockets inside of which membranes can form under the right conditions, which I have no clue as to the exact conditions but that was one claim.
