@divegeestersaid What is more interesting for me is that there is an apparent contradiction between the two accounts, which incidentally I don’t think are two “stories” but two perspectives on one story.
@wolfgang59said That's going to be a tough one to explain!
What are the two perspectives?
Why is there a need to explain? Christians who feel that there is some urgent need to explain anything to unbelieving people / atheists, and to convince them that the bible is true, are sadly mistaken. There is no requirement or commandment to do that. Neither is there any need to continuously explain anything to Christians of opposing views. Of course someone may engage in a discussion of contentious or important issues, but most of these discussions are petty and trivial.
@blood-on-the-trackssaid Would a frivolous (but hopefully mildly amusing) answer to the thread heading be 'Peter Gabriel era' ?
It would.
But Genesis were $hyt3 with or without Gabriel!
😉
I was into "YES" in the 70s ... pretentious crap but I loved it.
Close to the Edge is still an ear-worm for me.
@divegeestersaid What lesson do you find in the Biblical claim that a man was created from dust into God’s image?
You can't stop while you're ahead, can you?
Sobeit.
The lesson that man has a humble beginning, that he is not as "perfect" as some may think. That we are made in God's image, but that we are still far from God.
Get it all out, because I am not going to be suffering endless questions, as is your usual M.O.
@wolfgang59said Of course they do, and they are entertaining for others. Most of us
enjoy Greek & Norse mythology without believing it factual .. and
perhaps there are allegorical "truths" within those myths.
But it's really puzzling that the OT has TWO creation stories. The only sense that
makes is if the editors of Genesis are saying "These stories are not true but both
have v ...[text shortened]... e from Adam's rib.
It's saying man is incomplete without a partner and loneliness isn't a weakness.
Let me interrupt here and ask you this: what "two" creation stories? I only see one.

This is a discussion forum. If you don't want to discuss, then don't let the door hit you on the way out.
