He believes your God figure is an imaginary character so he does not "have conversations" with him because, as he said himself: "I try not to have conversations with imaginary characters." It is not a non sequitur at all. If you mean that you disagree with him, fine. But "Non sequitur" does not mean 'I disagree with you'.
